LEFT OF CENTRE STAGE

Sarika’s next exhibition of her extended body of work ‘Left of Centre Stage’ will be at The Other Art Fair in Sydney from September 10-13, 2015. The Other Art Fair-Sydney is an extension of the UK’s largest artist led fair which supports emerging artists and provides a platform where artists can cultivate their professional careers.

Sarika’s work has been selected to be displayed alongside collections from 100 other artists spanning a variety of genres. Sarika’s collection will include images from her previous travels in India, Burma and Papua New Guinea. There will be new editions to the collection from her most recent placement at New Ireland in Papua New Guinea where she continued out-reach efforts to improve access to reproductive healthcare and trained local workers to ensure ongoing service delivery. There will also be images from her visits to the Solomon Islands (July 2015) and the Northern Territory, Australia (July 2015) where she is working on extending health advocacy around sexual and post-natal health.

The Other Art Fair runs over four days and includes access to all artist displays as well as seminars, workshops and lectures given by industry leaders. All sales from Sarika’s work will be donated to Rotary International Australia to support ongoing efforts to improving reproductive health quality and access in rural Australia and the Asia Pacific. About Sarika Gupta

Sarika is a young Sydney based doctor with a keen passion for the arts. Her medical interests centre on women's and public health with a particular focus on improving health access in rural and remote and developing regions.

Since 2010 Sarika has volunteered as a medic with various NGOs in India, Burma and Papua New Guinea where she has had access to people at their most vulnerable. Her experiences have helped her gain unique insight into their hardships but also to the fundamental elements of healing that are less emphasised by conventional Western practice. Sarika’s images vividly communicate the key elements of her experiences both as an observer as well as a medic and in doing so they instil a distinct awareness in the viewer.

Since commencing her specialist training in NSW, Sarika intends to continue working with disadvantaged communities in the Asia Pacific, particularly focusing on post-natal and sexual health. She also intends to address these issues locally by working with communities in rural and remote NSW and the Northern Territory.

Sales from all of Sarika’s works will be donated to charities and Non Government Organisations dedicated to improving Women’s Health.
